The Bear Awakens retreats bring together 3 of the world's leading griefworkers in collaboration as your facilitator team. You can expect to find a well held "nest" in which to settle deeply into your authentic emotions and find in the Circle the power to move through what would otherwise seem impossible alone. Inspired by Tuomas Rounakari's "Bear Awakener" album and his love of the archetypal Bear energy we are invoking all that has been dormant, neglected and hibernating in you to Awake!
Introducing Tanya Bryan
Tanya is a psychotherapist and death doula who has organised several retreats in Ireland called "Restoring Keening" which established her and Tuomas' working relationship back in 2018. A consummate holder of space and fantastic networker of humans (and more than humans) Tanya has hosted and accompanied Alexandra on no less than 6 occasions through the intense initiatory experience of the Death Doula training offered by Sacred Circle and amongst Tanya's many talents are bringing the right people together, in the right place at the right time with her events enterprise A Time to Gather.
Introducing Alexandra Derwen
Alexandra (they/them) is founder of the Sacred Circle Training Co CIC and continues to be a facilitator on the flagship Death Doula course that they created. An author of a trilogy of books called Lost Rites Ceremony and Ritual for Death and Dying, Community of Grief and Ancestral Landscape, Alexandra is a poet, a pilgrim and a seer of sorts. A ceremonialist to their core and champion of the sacred, Alexandra is delighted to be teaming up with Tuomas and Tanya for these two powerful offerings. Introducing Tuomas Rounakari
Tuomas is a violinist, lamenter and ethnomusicologist from Finland. Tuomas has travelled extensively both with indigenous peoples and with his folk-metal band... A hugely respected workshop leader and lament facilitator Tuomas' second album Bear Awakener gives us the way in to the focus of this retreat. Irish Bear Awakens at Mucklagh Lodge!
Nestled in the Hills and Forests of County Wicklow this retreat centre has seen decades of deep spiritual and healing gatherings. The venue holds 20 people and we expect we will fill it so book now! The accomodation is in shared rooms (see below for options) and we will be offering 3 homemade meals per day, a food plan will be sent in advance so you can choose to bring extras you love to supplement it and please bring a contribution to the snack-table to share. Bring your swimming things if Cold Water appeals to you. This will be a sober space so please do not bring alcohol or mind / mood altering substances with you. Suitability for this Retreat
This retreat will be a well held opportunity for strong emotion and catharsis in a group and you might well be wondering if this is a space is suitable for you, or you suitable for this space... we will be asking everyone who signs up to complete a short questionnaire which helps us to help you prepare for the retreat (it includes accessibility and dietary requirements amongst questions about emotional resilience), if you are in any doubt as to whether you and this retreat are compatible and you would like to complete the questionnaire before signing up you can do so here and if it flags up a concern for you or us we can have a conversation with you to help you and us discern suitability. Welsh Bear Awakens at Trefacwn!
Situated in the stunning landscape of Pembrokeshire Wales the house and grounds of Trefacwn offer something really special, touches of luxury and a beautiful aesthetic while being close to Nature and simple living. The maximum capacity for this venue is around 30 and we will be working in its incredible Roundhouse. The accomodation options range from single occupancy to twin rooms to bunkrooms(see below) and we will be offering 3 homemade meals per day, a food plan will be sent in advance so you can choose to bring extras you love to supplement it and please bring a contribution to the snack-table to share. Welsh Bear Awakens 14th - 17th March 2024 is 3 nights at Trefacwn in Pembrokeshire and offers you 3 choices for accomodation: a single occupancy double room at £525, a bed in a twin room at £450 or a bed in the Bunkroom at £395.
